Sierra Azul is an originator organization that works with small coffee producers in the mountains of the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, one of the most biodiverse regions in Mexico. Our work focuses on Zapotec and Mixe indigenous communities that have cultivated shade-grown coffee for generations, preserving the cloud forests that surround their plots.
We accompany more than 60 producer families in improving their harvesting, wet milling, and drying processes, always seeking to elevate cup quality without compromising the traditional practices that make this region's coffee unique. The plots are located between 1,200 and 1,800 meters above sea level, where conditions of altitude, humidity, and volcanic soils produce coffee with complex profiles of bright acidity, fruity notes, and a silky body.
Through EthicHub, Sierra Azul facilitates access to fair credit for producers during the months leading up to harvest, a critical period in which they have traditionally been forced to sell their coffee at prices far below market value. Our commitment is to the economic sovereignty of coffee-growing communities, transparent trade, and the conservation of the biocultural heritage of the Oaxacan Sierra Norte.
